How to Make a Cobbleverse Server (Fabric 1.21.1)

Published

COBBLEVERSE is a Cobblemon modpack (its wiki lives on Lumyverse) that adds gyms, badges, custom structures and a lot of extra Pokémon content on top of Cobblemon. It's one of the most downloaded Cobblemon packs on Modrinth (over 7 million downloads), and the most common question about it is how to run it for friends. This guide covers both ways: running it yourself, and having a host install it.

What you need to know first

Checked against the COBBLEVERSE Modrinth page on 2 November 2026:

Latest pack versionCOBBLEVERSE 1.7.42 (published 21 July 2026)
Minecraft1.21.1
Mod loaderFabric
Cobblemon inside1.7.3 (the pack pins its own Cobblemon; don't swap in a newer jar)
Java21
Downloadone .mrpack file, about 239 MB

There's no separate "server pack" download. You build the server from the same .mrpack the players use.

The rule that breaks most Cobbleverse servers: every player has to run the same COBBLEVERSE version as the server. Plain Cobblemon, a different Cobblemon pack, or an older COBBLEVERSE won't connect. Players install the pack with the Modrinth App (or another launcher that reads .mrpack files) and pick the version that matches the server.

How much RAM a Cobbleverse server needs

The pack's own wiki says it needs at least 4 GB. That's a floor for a quick test, not for a group. COBBLEVERSE loads well over a hundred mods plus resource packs, and Pokémon spawning adds load as players spread out.

We sell Cobbleverse from 6 GB because that's what we tested it at: our 6 GB test server took 347 seconds to finish its first boot. For more on Cobblemon RAM, including which settings in config/cobblemon/main.json affect it, see how much RAM a Cobblemon server needs, or put your player count into the RAM calculator.

Option 1: run it yourself

You need a machine that stays on, Java 21, and an open port (see port forwarding). The simplest installer is mrpack-install, which reads a Modrinth pack and sets up a server with the right loader:

# Install COBBLEVERSE 1.7.42 and Fabric into ./cobbleverse
mrpack-install cobbleverse 1.7.42 --server-dir cobbleverse --server-file server.jar

cd cobbleverse
echo "eula=true" > eula.txt # only after reading the Minecraft EULA
java -Xms6G -Xmx6G -jar server.jar nogui

The first start takes several minutes while the mods load and the world generates. If the server crashes on start, open logs/latest.log: if it names a client-only mod (for example a minimap or a shader mod), move that jar out of mods/ and start again. If it names a missing dependency, the mod's Modrinth page lists what it needs.

Players then connect to your IP or domain with the matching COBBLEVERSE version. The general version of these steps is in how to make a Cobblemon server.

Option 2: one-click on a host

On Packyard, Cobbleverse is a one-click option. Pick it on the order page, choose the RAM and a name, and the server installs COBBLEVERSE on Fabric 1.21.1 with Java 21 for you. You get an address like yourname.play.packyard.ca that doesn't change, daily backups plus your own backups with one-click restore, and SFTP if you want to edit configs. You don't need to open any port at home.

It's $1.50 per GB of RAM a month in USD plus applicable taxes, so 6 GB is $9 and 8 GB is $12. Servers run in US West, and we sell in the US and Canada (not Quebec).

Start a Cobbleverse server from $9 a month, or compare it with other packs on Cobblemon server hosting.

FAQ

Why can't my friends join my Cobbleverse server?

Almost always a version mismatch. Everyone needs the same COBBLEVERSE version as the server (1.7.42 at the time of writing), installed as the whole pack. Players on the official Cobblemon pack can't join a COBBLEVERSE server, and the reverse fails too.

Is there a Cobbleverse server pack?

No separate one. You install the server from the same .mrpack file, with a tool such as mrpack-install, or let a host install it.

Can I update Cobblemon inside Cobbleverse?

Don't. The pack is built around the Cobblemon version it ships (1.7.3). Update the whole pack when its author releases a new version, and update the players' clients at the same time.

Can Bedrock players join a Cobbleverse server?

No. Cobbleverse is a Java Edition Fabric modpack, and every player needs the mods installed. See is Cobblemon on Bedrock?.

How long does a Cobbleverse server take to start?

The first boot is the slowest. Our 6 GB test server took just under 6 minutes, and later restarts are quicker.
