Project Zomboid admin commands
Last checked:
On a Project Zomboid server, admin commands are typed in chat with a slash (/save), or in the server console without one (save). Your account needs a high enough access level to use them in chat. This list is for Build 42. Commands have changed between builds, so type /help on your own server to see the exact set it accepts.

How to make someone admin
- The server has an admin account, set up on first start with the admin password.
- From the server console, run
setaccesslevel "PlayerName" admin(no slash). In chat, it's/setaccesslevel "PlayerName" admin, and only works if your account already has the right to change access levels. - Build 42 access levels include admin, moderator, gm and observer. The exact list can differ by build. To take rights away, set the account back to
user(on Build 41 it wasnone). - The player should leave and rejoin after the change.
- Older guides mention
/grantadmin. On Build 42, usesetaccesslevel.

Run a Build 42 server that stays online
A Packyard Project Zomboid server is a password-protected Build 42 server for PC on Steam, on the same panel and backups as our Minecraft servers. From the panel console you can type server commands without the slash, so you can save, check players or change your access level without being in the game. Players join a permanent address with a name and port that stays the same, and there's no port forwarding on your side. The first start takes 30 to 60 minutes because the game files download. Servers run in Seattle (US West).
- Size: 5 GB is our pick for 2–5 players ($7.50/month). 4 GB is $6. That's $1.50 per GB per month, $5 minimum, in USD plus applicable taxes.
- First-payment refund if something on our side doesn't work (see Refunds). Cancel any time in the panel. Available in the US and Canada (not Quebec).
