A Minecraft server address that never changes
Updated
Packyard gives every Minecraft server a permanent address, such as yourserver.play.packyard.ca, which stays the same through restarts and even when we move your server to different hardware. It changes only if you rename it yourself. Plans cost $1.50 per GB of RAM a month (from $5), with daily backups and free restores included.
Why addresses usually change
- Home hosting: your home IP can change, and port forwarding breaks when the router resets.
- Free hosts: some put you on a shared address, or your server stops when nobody is online.
- Paid hosts with a raw IP:port: when the host moves your server to a different machine, the IP or port can change, and every player has to update their server list.
How Packyard keeps it permanent
Players never connect to the machine your server runs on. They connect to our edge server, which reads the address they typed and forwards them over a private WireGuard tunnel to wherever your server runs right now. If we move your server, only that internal route changes. The address in your players' server list stays the same. The full write-up: permanent Minecraft server addresses with a WireGuard edge.
What you get
- A permanent address on play.packyard.ca for Minecraft Java
- Automatic daily backups plus your own panel backups, all stored off the server, with a one-click restore
- A modpack installer (Paper, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and popular packs)
- DDoS-filtered networking at the edge, so your server's own IP is never handed to players

FAQ
Does a Packyard server address ever change?
Not unless you rename it yourself. The address is tied to your server, not to the machine it runs on, so it survives restarts and hardware moves.
Do my players need a port number?
No. Minecraft Java players type just the name, for example yourserver.play.packyard.ca.
Can I pick the name?
Yes, you pick it when you order, and you can rename it yourself later in the panel (your server → Address). The old name is held for 7 days and still works, so your players have time to switch, then it's released.
Can I change my server's address later?
Yes. Rename it in the panel (your server → Address). Names use letters, numbers and dashes, and some words are blocked. The old name is held for 7 days, then released.
Can I use my own domain?
Not yet. Every server gets a play.packyard.ca address.
Does SFTP use the same protected entry point?
Yes. SFTP goes through the same edge as your players, so you never connect to the machine your server runs on. The host, port and username are under SFTP Information on your server's Settings page in the panel.
Does this work for Bedrock?
No. Packyard is for Minecraft Java Edition.
