How to play Cobblemon
Last checked:
Cobblemon is a free mod for Minecraft: Java Edition. The easiest way to play is to install the official Cobblemon modpack in a launcher like the CurseForge app, the Modrinth app or Prism Launcher, then start it like any other Minecraft profile. You need Minecraft: Java Edition. Cobblemon doesn't run on Bedrock, consoles or phones.
Start a Cobblemon server (Fabric)
What you need
- Minecraft: Java Edition. On PC, Java and Bedrock come together, so if you bought Minecraft for PC you have it.
- A launcher that installs modpacks: CurseForge app, Modrinth app or Prism Launcher.
- A PC that runs modded Minecraft. Modpacks use more memory than the plain game.
Install it (the easy way)
- Install the CurseForge app, the Modrinth app or Prism Launcher.
- Search for Cobblemon Official Modpack. Pick the Fabric version unless your friends' server uses NeoForge.
- Click Install. The launcher downloads the right Minecraft version (1.21.1), the loader and every dependency.
- Click Play, create a world, and choose your starter when the game asks.
Joining a friend's server? Install the same pack version their server runs, which may not be the newest one. Search the full pack name, because searching just "Cobblemon" can show the single mod first.
Install it by hand
Install the Fabric or NeoForge loader for the Minecraft version Cobblemon supports, then put the Cobblemon .jar (and Fabric API, on Fabric) in your .minecraft/mods folder. On Windows that folder is %appdata%\.minecraft\mods. The launcher route is easier because it handles versions and dependencies for you.
Three ways to play with friends
- Open to LAN: works only for players on your home network, and only while you're playing.
- Join a public Cobblemon server: you play by that server's rules, and your progress lives on someone else's server.
- Run your own server: your world stays online for your group. Everyone installs the same pack, the same version and the same loader as the server.
Why can't my friend join?
- Their pack version or loader is different from the server's. Fabric and NeoForge can't join each other.
- They added or removed mods. Everyone needs the server's mod list.
- They're on Bedrock. Cobblemon is Java only.
A Cobblemon server for your group
We install the official Cobblemon modpack for you, on Fabric or NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1. Your friends install the same pack in their launcher and join a permanent address like my-server.play.packyard.ca. It stays the same, and there's no port forwarding on your side. Servers run in Seattle (US West).
- Size: 6 GB is our pick for 2–5 players ($9/month). 7 GB is $10.50, 8 GB is $12, 9 GB is $13.50, 10 GB is $15, 11 GB is $16.50 and 12 GB is $18. That's $1.50 per GB per month, $5 minimum, in USD plus applicable taxes.
- First-payment refund if something on our side doesn't work (see Refunds). Cancel any time in the panel. Available in the US and Canada (not Quebec).
