How to make a Cobblemon server

Last checked:

There are two ways to play Cobblemon with friends: run the server on your own computer, or rent one that's installed for you. Here are both, so you can choose.

Option 1: run it on your own PC

  1. Pick the build your group plays. Cobblemon has a Fabric build and a NeoForge build. Everyone has to use the same one as the server.
  2. Install Java 21. Minecraft 1.21.1 servers need Java 21.
  3. Get the server loader. Download the Fabric server launcher (or the NeoForge installer) for Minecraft 1.21.1 from the loader's official site and run it in an empty folder.
  4. Add the mods. Put Cobblemon in the mods folder. On Fabric, add Fabric API too. Use the same versions your players have.
  5. Accept the EULA and start it. Run the server once, set eula=true in eula.txt, then start it again. Give it enough memory with -Xmx (see the RAM section below).
  6. Let friends in. Forward TCP port 25565 on your router to your PC and give friends your public IP. If your home IP changes, their saved address stops working.

The catch: your PC has to stay on whenever anyone plays, your home IP is visible to everyone who joins, and backups are on you.

Option 2: get one installed for you

Pick Cobblemon when you order and we set up the server for you, with the right loader and Java version. No port forwarding. Your friends join at yourserver.play.packyard.ca, and that address stays the same.

How much RAM?

Our estimate for 2–5 players is 5 GB, and that's the size we recommend on the order page. Bigger groups need more; see the modpack RAM guide.

Price

$1.50 per GB of RAM per month, with a $5 minimum (up to 3 GB). A 5 GB Cobblemon server is $7.50 a month.

Beta: 50% off for servers started by 6 December 2026, so 5 GB is $3.75 a month. We'll email you at least 14 days before the price changes. All prices in USD, plus applicable taxes. Money-back on your first payment within 72 hours.

The beta is open to the US & Canada (outside Quebec).

FAQ

Can Bedrock players join?

No. Cobblemon is Java Edition only.

Why can't my friend join?

Usually a build or version mismatch: they need the same loader (Fabric or NeoForge) and the same Cobblemon version as the server.

Can I move my self-hosted world to Packyard later?

Yes. Small files go through the panel's web file manager; for a larger world, send us a download link at hello@packyard.ca.
